Humble Beginnings
Hi, I’m Melissa, and I’m so glad you’re here.
The Humble Crumb began the way so many good things do, quietly, at home, with a little extra time, a lot of patience, and a deep love for feeding the people around me. What started as baking sourdough for my family slowly turned into neighbors asking for a loaf… then friends… then friends of friends. And before I knew it, my kitchen had become a place of connection, comfort, and community.
At The Humble Crumb, we believe life is meant to be savored not rushed. Our sourdough is naturally fermented, slow-risen, and baked in small batches so every loaf, scone, cookie, and waffle gets the care it deserves. This isn’t bread made to hurry through the week. It’s bread made for slow mornings, shared tables, and moments that linger.
We’re proudly rooted right here in Lexington and Croswell, inspired daily by lake life, family traditions, and the simple beauty of this corner of Michigan. Around here, weekends start with coffee on the patio, golf carts humming down the road, and the sun rising over Lake Huron. That rhythm - slow, honest, and homey - is baked into everything we make.
Our sourdough is rustic and wholesome, with a crackly crust, a soft-centered crumb, and honest ingredients you can feel good about serving your family. From golden boules and sandwich loaves to seasonal scones and cookies, every item is crafted to feel familiar yet special like something you remember from childhood, but even better.
We keep things intentionally small. That means limited quantities, fresh bakes, and a personal touch you won’t find on a grocery shelf. It also means when you pick up from us, you’re not just buying bread, you’re stepping into our kitchen, our story, and our way of slowing down just a little.
Thank you for supporting a small, local bakery and for making The Humble Crumb part of your weekends, your holidays, and your everyday moments. I’m truly honored to bake for you.
With gratitude (and a warm oven),
Melissa
P.S. If you ever have a question, a flavor request, or just want to chat sourdough you’re always welcome here. Order by Wednesday, pick up Friday… and let your weekend start with bread.
